A Perfect Plan

Last year, during the archery season, I found this buck on opening day and spent the next eight days figuring out his movements and trying to get one step ahead of him. I have hunted other bucks in this same area in previous seasons, but this specific buck had some very different habits that made it very hard to figure him out. One evening I got very lucky and sat at a spot with my wife Tabitha, hoping to help her get her first archery buck and he happened to feed out of the pines. We honestly hadn’t expected the big buck to show up at that spot, because we had watched him that morning feeding towards his usual bedding area in a different spot along the ridge, and we had not previously seen him feeding in the spot we were sitting. When he fed down the finger next to us, he presented what seemed like the perfect shot. However, the excitement got the best of me and I hit a branch halfway between me and the buck and he was gone. I was able to see him a couple more times during that season but never got another opportunity.
