Tundra Monster

After a long nine months on the water commercial fishing, I was craving being back in the trees. I spent my fall long-line season daydreaming about future hunts. One of my dreams, a caribou hunt, became a real possibility when friends who were already hunting the Alaska Peninsula invited me to join. So, as soon as I was off the boat, I flew out to Cold Bay, Alaska to go hunting over Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, wind storms blocked us from caribou hunting or being able to do much exploring. Heavy winds blew snow drifts blocking the majority of the roads. Visibility was limited and made for small ventures. Even though my chances of seeing caribou seemed to be dwindling, we had successful fox and ptarmigan hunts that had my heart full of joy. I have been commercial fishing around the Alaska Peninsula several years, but this was the first time I was really able to explore it. A desire that was richly satisfied thanks to the help of some wonderful local friends.
