Montana Monarch

The day of August 25th was a special day for me, I didn’t realize just how much this hunt would change my life. I wasn’t able to make it out to hunt in the morning, and figured I would make it out for an evening glass instead. Hunting was slow, the elk weren’t moving as much as we would’ve liked. Hot weather really had the elk in the timber all day. That evening, my dad and I went to our usual glassing peaks, picking apart the canyons with our optics. We spotted some cows, about a mile off. A few minutes went by, and we spotted a bull. Moving in and out of the trees, we couldn’t get a good visual. Finally, he came out of the quakies, and we saw he was a giant!
My heart began to beat fast, I was nervous, and we were still a mile away. Formulating a game plan, we decided to make our way to the area the bull was in. As we were walking into the canyon the bull was in, I began to remember everything I needed to do to hopefully get this bull on the ground.
