Lesson Learned

I’d like to tell you that drawing a coveted once-in-a-lifetime (OIL) moose tag on Utah’s Ogden Unit came with a guarantee. I’m here to tell you friends, it does not.
The morning of May 11th, I was sitting on my couch slightly depressed while watching the endless posts on social media about the credit card hits everyone had drawn over the previous three days. I didn’t have a regular deer tag the previous two seasons, let alone anything special. As I checked my phone for the eighth time, there they were, in all their glory… two Utah DWR holds! One that was clearly my moose tag and another around the cost of a limited entry elk tag that I also held 19 points for. My mind began to race as I surely had drawn both tags … ugh, what a dilemma to have! Thankfully, my friends, who were not in a haze about it, pointed out the math was wrong. I quickly realized I had put in a joint app with a non-resident hunting friend and we had drawn regular rifle deer tags. Crisis averted, still a major victory.
