Doubled Up In The Breaks
By Bryan Clendenen-ELK-MT-DIY-PV
This couldn’t be real? I, along with my long-time friend and hunting partner, Bruce, had drawn coveted elk tags in the Missouri River Breaks of Montana. We started strategizing right away as we were very excited to have finally drawn this tag after years of putting in. While still drawing tags every year in Montana was exciting we were stoked to hunt a non “general” area.
Having never been to this unit, a scouting trip in August was in order. Although the weather was extremely dry and quite warm, the trip did not disappoint as we saw a good number of bulls and quite a few of them were definitely of the caliber we were hoping to put tags on. We made the decision to come back to archery hunt. Due to other commitments this didn’t happen until the rut was mostly over in early October.
