Wyoming MRS: Bison

The buffalo herd in Wyoming seems to be stabilizing finally as the quotas have found a pretty consistent and steady trend. The wild bison hunting scenarios in Wyoming are very simple – a single open area (Area 2) and only two hunt options available, bull (Type 1, any buffalo) or cow/calf (Type 4). The season is very lengthy, August 15 to January 15, nearly five months long, but the tag quotas for bull hunts remain very limited, with only 50 bull and 245 cow tags up for grabs in 2016. With a very healthy overall tag quota of 295 and good hunter success right about 80%, Wyoming remains one of the best options in the entire country for a fair chase wild bison hunt if you can manage to draw the tag.
